It occurred to me as I was wading the vast ocean of the Internet (searching for other interesting blogs to which I could link/blog owners with which I could become friends) that there are far too many blogs that aren’t updated nearly regularly enough. Or that there are plenty of blogs that haven’t been updated since 2007 that the owners keep up simply because they want a record of their lives from that period. Even though they NEVER update their websites.
Then there are those who have been on hiatus for a year, and don’t leave updates at all. It’s rather sad. I mean, I’ve left my blog alone before for a month or two (maybe), but I don’t think I’d be able to leave it unattended for a year or more. Never ever.
And yet there are so many people who do. Why is it that there are so many of us out there (geeky bloggers) who are so incapable of keeping to regular scheduled things, like blogging?
I know that for some people, it’s because they decide that real life is far more important than their virtual lives, and so they leave web-life by the wayside when real life gets in the way. For others (me included), they just don’t realize they’ve left their online presence alone for so long, because they got really involved in a creative project of some sort, like writing a book or painting a really awesome picture or designing a completely separate website, or creating a comic book.
Really though, it takes a lot of time and dedication to keep up a website, even with the ease that blogging platforms (such as WordPress) provide us on the coding side.
It’s interesting to me though that there are so many dead sites now, so many websites that have been completely abandoned, and are still around, standing as a warning of sorts to other webmasters of what could happen to their very own websites.
I sure hope it’s not what happens to mine. Which is also one of the reasons why I decided to partake in a Project 365 of sorts–as a way to oblige myself to post every day (even though it really doesn’t seem like work–really).
No… no dead website for me.
